The FreshRx farm to hospital program is an innovative food as medicine program that services the greater Jupiter area. Each week for 16 weeks, 50 FreshRx participants will experience the importance of fresh, local food. Each week’s farm share will be accompanied by an educational cooking video, printed recipes, and a FreshRx newsletter specifically tailored to each week’s farm share. The FreshRx farm to hospital program focuses on cardiology, oncology and pediatric patients from Jupiter Medical Center as well as other partner organizations. In order to increase patient engagement, the next phase of the program ensures each week patients will receive a farm share of fresh healthy produce as well as a newsletter and educational videos that will support patients in their journey transforming their diets. Each week the printed newsletter will include nutritional information, tips from the farmer along with pointers on mental health and physical fitness. All information will also be published on the FreshRx website. The video clip has two purposes: to overcome language barriers and to show patients how to prepare produce they may be unfamiliar with, all the while adhering to social distancing guidelines. Due to COVID 19 we can no longer host in-person cooking demos.

The foundation of the FreshRx program is that you are what you eat. FreshRx defines this as fresh, local fruits and seasonal vegetables grown by organic practices. FreshRx will provide simple, cost-effective and friendly recipes designed to mimic the contents of each week’s food share box. Recipes, tips and information will be delivered to participants as part of the box and on the website. Too often, residents in the greater Jupiter area believe they cannot afford fresh, healthy, affordable food. This expanded project provides quick meal preparation tips and simple recipes using the produce supplied in the farm share.
Fresh Rx aims to address nutritional inequality through innovative food programs that provide both education and access to fresh healthy produce, while also supporting local family owned farms that use organic growing practices and contribute to the success of our regional food systems. For the fifth year in a row, Healthier Jupiter will offer $2,500 Mini-Grants to impact the health of our community. The goal of the Mini-Grant program is to fund projects that address healthy eating, active living and mental health in new, innovative and community-centered ways. These projects will create lasting and transformative change in the health, wellness and success of the greater Jupiter community. Not-for-profits, government agencies, civic organizations, public schools, school-based groups, houses of worship, businesses and individuals are encouraged to submit applications. Funds available will pilot ideas to improve our collective community health in one or more focus areas:
Increase availability and affordability of fresh, healthy foods;
Help individuals become more physically active on a regular basis;
Encourage people to engage mentally to practice healthy behaviors; and/or
Change the built environment and policies that promote equitable health opportunities.
