Jack the Bike Man - 2020-2021 Mini-Grant Awardee!
Jack the Bike Man has received a 2020-2021 Healthier Jupiter Mini-Grant to fund “Bicycle Repairs for El Sol Community”.
This project will help individuals become more physically active on a regular basis by….
The bicycle is the primary form the transportation for the El Sol community. Besides providing greater access to employment opportunities, social services and entertainment, bicycling also has the added benefit of providing physical activity promoting, physical and mental health. The independence and autonomy provided by this simple piece of equipment also provides stress relief. Because the bicycle is the primary mode of transportation for this population, it definitely qualifies as “help[ing] individuals become physically active on a regular basis”. This project proposes to provide free bicycle repairs on site at El Sol. The goal is to support the bicycle riding activity of this community and eliminate the stress related to accessibility and cost of repairs. The service will be promoted by both Jack the Bike Man and El Sol to fully maximize the event. A fully equipped trailer will be stationed on the grounds of El Sol to perform the repairs.

With this project, we aim to support physical fitness and realize its benefits as it relates to combating diabetes and heart disease and supporting healthy weight management. By providing an alternative to walking for essential transportation, we aim to relieve stress and isolation.
Jack the Bike Man, Inc.’s mission is to strengthen our community through bicycle education and safety programs. For the fifth year in a row, Healthier Jupiter will offer $2,500 Mini-Grants to impact the health of our community. The goal of the Mini-Grant program is to fund projects that address healthy eating, active living and mental health in new, innovative and community-centered ways. These projects will create lasting and transformative change in the health, wellness and success of the greater Jupiter community. Not-for-profits, government agencies, civic organizations, public schools, school-based groups, houses of worship, businesses and individuals are encouraged to submit applications. Funds available will pilot ideas to improve our collective community health in one or more focus areas:
Increase availability and affordability of fresh, healthy foods;
Help individuals become more physically active on a regular basis;
Encourage people to engage mentally to practice healthy behaviors; and/or
Change the built environment and policies that promote equitable health opportunities.
Healthier Jupiter, in partnership with Jupiter Medical Center is dedicated to bringing the greater Jupiter community together to encourage each person to live their healthiest life.
