Student Voice Reporter: Healthy Eating at Home
With many restaurants closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, my family and I have been cooking and baking at home. Although we miss eating out, choosing healthy food for home is important to staying fit and keeping our immune systems healthy. Plus, it is enjoyable to create delicious meals.
I personally like to cook, and I think it is a great way to fill up the long hours at home. And, I get to eat my hard work. I especially enjoy making arugula salads and avocado toast with salt, pepper, turmeric, and garlic. Snacks can also be healthy and tasty. I love having apples with almond butter, fruits or nuts to snack on.
Another thing, it is easy for me to default to mindless eating while at home with nothing to do. During this stressful time I think it is okay to have some comfort foods, but I try to balance them out with healthy foods. I also try not to use my phone while eating so I can stay in the moment and am conscious of my meal.
Preparing and eating healthy foods at home has been an important part of our quarantine. It has been fun to get creative when making snacks and meals. There are so many different foods and recipes to choose from, it's easy to get wrapped up in the options. I hope you are staying healthy and are also using this time to enjoy your kitchen.
