How to Shop for Healthy Food on a Budget - Local CSAs & Farmers Markets

Healthier Jupiter has worked with our Community Action Committee and our partner FreshRx to list some of the local CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) and farmers market where you can buy fresh, local and organic produce from your local farmer.
What is a CSA? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture is a pre-packed veggie box or farm share. It is a relationship between the farm and the customer. As a CSA “member”, you receive weekly shares of produce, and goods directly from a local farm’s (or group of farms) harvest.
A lot of our local farms, farmers markets and non-profits are starting to accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), formerly known as food stamps. Those with SNAP often receive a discounted price. Find out more information about apply for SNAP with the Palm Beach County Food Bank.
Healthier Jupiter, in partnership with Jupiter Medical Center is dedicated to bringing the greater Jupiter community together to encourage each person to live their healthiest life. Healthier Jupiter strives to be inclusive in every aspect of the initiative and to involve all those who live, work, learn, play or seek care in the greater Jupiter area. As such, you will find markets and farms from all over Palm Beach County listed.
Below we provide you with name of the farm, farmers market or nonprofit, including products, growing practices, how to order, price range and locations. All of the information above is subject to change, please consult each individual market or farm for their most up to date times/days, vendors, etc.
CSAS & FARM SHARES
FreshRx
The Goods: FreshRx is a local non-profit that supports our regional food system by purchasing fresh produce from local, family-owned farms that use organic growing practices. When purchasing from them you help to support their efforts to support local farmers and provide fresh produce to nutritionally vulnerable communities, including kids and hospital patients. FreshRx accepts SNAP/EBT - you must purchase for 4 weeks at a time.

United Farmers Alliance
The Goods: We are the farmers, distributors, composters, propagators, educators, arborists, urban community famers, chefs, food retailers, and community members coming together to solve common obstacles in our local food systems. Purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables from United Farmers Alliance supports local farmers and allows for the non-profit to donate fresh fruits and vegetables to local food pantries and community organizations.
10 lb Veggie + Green Box: Pay per week - $20 (sample box photo on the right). Additional items on their website include pasture raised eggs, and Grade “A” Sutton Farms Milk. Check website for additional items. You must pay online by credit card.
United Farmers Alliance accepts SNAP/EBT - with SNAP a box, or other goods, is 50% off. You must reserve your share online, and the payment is fully processed at pick up - www.ufa.farm/shop

Holman’s Harvest
The Goods: Holman’s Harvest is a small family farm in Loxahatchee. They grow everything in the soil and consistently strive to have healthy living soil to produce the best tasting crops. Their farm does not use synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers, and they only use OMRI listed products whenever necessary. At Holman’s Harvest, their goal is to serve local families & restaurants.
CSA (Produce Club): Cost $225-$498.50. CSA runs for a 9-week season over 3 seasons: Fall (starts November 4th), Winter (Starts January 14th), & Spring (Starts March 18th). As a member, you are responsible for showing up at distribution sites each week to pick up your share of freshly harvested produce. You will generally receive five to seven different items in a medium sized bag (sample share below).

J-Town Farmers Market
The Goods: Enjoy the market as often as possible. It is about fun, food, and friendly vendors. Early arrivals get first choice of the fine selection. It is a great place for people watching too.

Where: The J-Town Farmers Market is on the southwest corner of Indiantown Rd and Military Trail. From Indiantown Road turn south onto Military Trail. Take the first right into the Jupiter Towne Center Complex. El Sol will be immediately on the right.

The Gardens Green Market
The Goods: The Gardens GreenMarket is a city-produced farmer’s market and public event with art, entertainment and food. This is accomplished by providing fresh, locally-grown produce to the community and encouraging the promotion of the agricultural industry.

Kai-Kai Farm
The Goods: Kai-Kai Farm makes its home on 40 acres in the heartland of western Martin County, Florida. Bordered by picturesque pastures and towering eucalyptus trees the rows run long with beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts and 80 other varieties of grown-in-the-ground vegetables sought by chefs and discerning home cooks.

Colab Farm
The Goods: At Colab Farms, they grow food that’s healthy for their patrons and the Earth. They are dedicated to growing honest produce without chemical pesticides and practicing environmentally responsible growing techniques. They believe these methods add to the wellness of our bodies and our environment, creating something much more sustainable for our society and for our planet.

Ordering Times: Mondays 12:00PM to Wednesday 12:00PM. They will still accept pre-orders online but you can also just stop by and purchase everything you need as well as any last minute harvests and craft kitchen creation that do not make it online.

Jojo’s Farmers Market
The Goods: At JoJo’s Farmers’ Market, our mission is to create a community where local businesses can communicate and thrive while exposing our Jupiter community to local wellness and healthy eating products we can feel good about. Our Farmers Market is home to a number of local professionals who go above and beyond to give back to the community through the products they offer. Hobe Sound Farmers Market
The Goods: Healthy farm-fresh produce is the cornerstone of the market, but you can pretty much find all that you need to eat and live healthy while enjoying live music a cool drink, and a bite to eat on Thursday evening and on weekends. The offerings all the while with our sights set on your health, happiness, and well-being. Every Wednesday and Thursday they update their website based on availability from local farmers: www.produce.oneworld-zerowaste.com. Go through and make your selections, choosing what you like and how much you need.
Checkout - pay $15 deposit. The deposit goes towards your total when you pick up.
On Friday you will get an email to pick a time you can come in, this way everyone is spaced out appropriately.
MONDAY pick up! Bring bags and containers for your goods. We pack it all up for you. Pay the balance (minus your deposit)
