If people are going to walk, there have to be places to walk to.
If you step out of your home, or office, where can you go in a 5 minute walk? Do you have a bike, what can you reach in a 10 minute bike ride?

When it comes to things like work or school, often times people are rushing out of their homes. If you do not have enough time to make those trips by walking or biking, our recommendation is to start with making your entertainment trips by walking. Check out the Jupiter Food Resource Map or the Get Fit Map to see some areas where you can walk or bike. Feeling adventurous, try mapping out places that are 10-30 minutes away or about 1 to 1.5 miles.
The environment in which we live has a great influence on whether we chose to walk or bike to every day destinations. Neighborhoods, schools, transportation systems, parks, open spaces, homes and workplaces create the physical environment that can make it easier or more challenging for individuals and families to be physically active. We know not all communities or neighborhoods have safe, comfortable and direct routes to every day destinations. Factors include traffic, vehicle speed, crosswalks, availability of sidewalks, crime, street lights, street trees, benches, etc. If you are interested in making change with Healthier Jupiter please fill out a How to Get Involved Form: https://www.healthierjupiter.org/get-involved
Walking or biking to every day destinations can help you reach your physical activity goals!
You do not have to do your physical activity all in one setting! Identify at least 10-30 minute time slots to fit in physical activity. Kill two birds with one stone - consider taking that time to walk or bike to run errands or go to everyday destinations.
Plan out physical activity. A lot of meetings on Monday, but a slow day of work on Friday? Choose a few days during the week that you can walk or ride your bike to work, school or shopping.
Walking or biking are some of the easiest, most convenient and relatively free way to be physically active. It also you gets you out and about to learn more about your community.
Incorporate physical activity into your social activity. Have a date or dinner plans with friends? Add physical activity into the mix. Invite friends and family to walk to your favorite restaurant.
