Wisdom Warrior Challenge - Is Your Senior Community Participating?

Wisdom Warrior Challenge Senior Track Event was originally set to “run” on March 14, 2020 on the track at Watson B. Duncan Middle School. We have all become masters of re-engineering our lives and this event is no exception.

What is the Wisdom Warrior Challenge?

It is an event for seniors 55-105 years old. You can walk, jog, commando crawl, use a walker, cane and walking sticks. Just cross the finish line! The distances are 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m. 1600m and two dedicated casual walks 400m and 800m. Every registered participant will be given an event T-shirt and a swag bag filled with goodies.

Medals will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each age/sex category for each distance. There will be a winner’s podium for pictures after each race. Finisher medals will be given to every participant that completes any distance. Points will be given to teams based on their finish place for each age/sex category, for each distance. Points will be used to calculate the winner of the Wisdom Warrior Challenge Traveling Trophy (WWCTT). The community that wins the WWCTT where they can proudly display until the next event where it is back up for grabs!

Vendors will be set up to lavish you with free giveaways. Their booths may be manned if the community is allowing it. There will be music, laughter, cheering, and a day dedicated to the fine athletes and their supporters. It is a guaranteed great day!

Check them out on Facebook for even more information and details: Wisdom Warrior Challenge.

THE WISDOM WARRIOR CHALLENGE WILL BE SAFE, and slightly different than originally planned:

  • A track will be set up at each community

  • Only senior communities will be participating

  • The awards ceremony will be held after all the communities turn in their results to the WWC committee, which may be a week or two after the individual events.

  • The awards ceremony will be held virtually with all communities on the same Zoom call. Ideally, all athletes will be in the same location at each community for the ceremony. The current guidelines will determine feasibility.

  • The medals and trophies for the overall winners will be sent to the communities so that we can all enjoy the presentation through the virtual ceremony.

Is your senior living community interested in getting involved? What do the communities need to provide?

  1. Space for the event. Clearly mark out the track. The Wisdom Warrior Challenge Team can come and do it for you if requested.

  2. Pick a day in November or December (11/10 and 11/13 are taken)

  3. Give out the swag bags before the race. The Wisdom Warrior Challenge Team will provide.

  4. If you are going to allow vendors (they are the sponsors of the event) they will need space to set up tables.

    • Communities who are allowing visitors: Vendors can set up a table at the community and its business as usual. In addition, they send a 30 second commercial about their business that is blasted on social media and on the community channels.

    • Communities that are not allowing anyone from the outside: The vendor tables are set up with everything they provide. In addition, they send a 30 second commercial about their business that is blasted on social media and on the community channels. They can even set up an IPAD or computer with a zoom call open to talk to people who come to the booth!

  5. Sign up team members, determine a team name, and gather the following information from each team member. Send information to WWC: wisdomwarriorchallenge@gmail.com

    • Name

    • DOB

    • Event or events they may do more than one

    • Shirt size

  6. Train your team on your designated track. Wisdom Warrior Challenge can help set up the training program.

  7. On the day of the event you will record the finish time for each team member, for each event. The Wisdom Warrior Challenge Team will set up this super easy process for you or come and do it for you.

  8. Set up the winner’s podium and present 1st, 2nd, 3rd medals for each age/sex, event. The Wisdom Warrior Challenge Team will provide both.

  9. Make the event day special with music, decorations, and an announcer. Ask residents not participating to come out to the event and cheer them on.

The Wisdom Warrior Challenge Team can offer as much, or as little assistance that you want. Your only decision is whether you are willing to put up the effort to give our seniors the best day ever. No guilt here!
