Student Voice Reporter...Couch to 5K 2020

Last year I participated in the Couch to 5k Program with Healthier Jupiter. It was the first time I had ever done a training program like this.  It was an amazing experience and it sparked my interest in running. It is now time for the third annual Couch to 5k. My family and I (see photos below) are going to participate and I hope you do as well.

The free nine week program is open to everyone.  Last year there were toddlers, kids and adults all running, walking or strolling the practice routes. It was a lot of fun to see everyone each week and get to know the participants.  The training sessions were split between walkers, joggers and runners so the sessions were suitable for all participants. Plus, because we were all training together, there was a strong incentive to stay with the program. And we got a free shirt!

The Couch to 5k program is a great way to make friends and get in shape.  It is a fun way to start your Saturday mornings, and it’s really cool to see how much can be accomplished in nine weeks. I would recommend the program to everyone, especially kids.  So make sure to sign up, the first training session is Saturday, February 22nd. Hope to see you there!

Sophia Nemes is a 7th grade communications major at BAK Middle School of The Arts. She was a winner of the 2018 Healthier Jupiter Student Video Contest in which she produced a film that highlighted pedestrian and bike safety guidelines for kids. Sophia has accepted the role of Healthier Jupiter Student Voice Reporter and will be providing a series of articles on various health-related topics from a student’s perspective. We are thrilled to have Sophia and her mother Anna as part of the Healthier Jupiter Volunteer Team. We welcome you to join the Volunteer Team as well.
